Day 4: Seasonal Changes (Part II)
Objectives
Students will:
Students will:
- Activate knowledge about the four seasons and apply in various activities.
Materials
- book - A Tree for All Seasons, by Robin Bernard
- concept circle handout
- season labels
- seasonal items for interactive activity (4 corners): sunglasses, snowflake, sunblock, rake, mittens, ice scraper, football, sand bucket, etc.
Instruction Sequence
- Read aloud book - A Tree for All Seasons, by Robin Bernard
- Guide discussion and review what was talked about during day one of seasonal changes
- Instruct students to complete a concept circle on the seasons
- Have students volunteer to share some of the words they wrote on their concept circle
- 4 Corners game
- Students will each be given a seasonal item
- Students will go to a labeled corner of the room depending on what season they think their item is most associated with
- After all students have selected a corner, lead a discussion about the items in each corner (note: several items may be associated with multiple seasons)
Assessments
Formative: Students will participate in discussion about the seasons by answering questions such as: What are the four seasons? What types of weather occurs during each of the seasons? What are some signs in nature that might tell us the seasons are changing? When it is summer in the U.S., is it summer in China? Why do you think different parts of the world experience different seasons at the same time?
Summative: Students will complete a concept circle listing words that are associated with each of the four seasons. Students will also participate in 4 Corners game during which they will have to think carefully about an item and select which season it associates with.
